Maria Ann Roglieri is Professor of Italian at
St. Thomas Aquinas College in Sparkill, New
York. She is author of Dante and Music:
Musical Adaptations of Dante's Commedia
(Ashgate Press, 2001) and numerous
articles on Dante. She holds a B.A. in Italian
literature from Columbia University, and an
M.A. and a Ph.D. in Italian literature from
Harvard University.
She and her daughter, Sara, have been
gluten-free for years. Maria has
gluten-intolerance linked to neuropathy, and
Sara has celiac disease.
In addition to authoring The Gluten-Free
Guide to New York and The Gluten-Free
Guide to Italy, Maria has had extensive
experience adapting recipes to be
gluten-free both in her personal life and as
author of I Don't Know What to Cook For
You (a cookbook for friends with food
allergies) (forthcoming), The Gluten-Free
Guide to Italian Cooking (forthcoming) and
as co-author of The Gluten-Free Guide to
Indian Cooking (forthcoming).
She is a member of the Gluten Intolerance
Group of North America, The Celiac Sprue
Association USA, and the Westchester
Celiac Sprue Support Group.
Sara Friedman is a 7th grader in Sleepy
Hollow, New York. She enjoys singing,
acting, writing, and playing viola and piano.
The Gluten-Free Guide to Washington DC
is her first book. All proceeds from the
sale of this book will go to The
University of Maryland Celiac Disease
Research Center.
